The apples on our trees are now turning a bright rosy red, a vibrant colour of Autumn.  I’m trying to pick the last of them before the local wildlife start tucking in.  Not that we mind, it’s good to share!

The apple varieties allude us as the trees were here long before we were.  We think they are cooking apples due to their tartness, but the longer they are left on the trees the sweeter they seem to get.

Our house and several others were built in the old orchard of the manor house in the village.  The orchard wall still remains separating our garden from the next where other apple trees can be seen standing proud of the wall.   We all have a freezer full of apple pies and eat crumble for dessert and in between a cake or two for elevenses!  We wouldn’t have it any other way!  What’s your favourite apple dish?
